The University of Adelaide

Welcome to the AMUNC 2008 website!

AMUNC 2008 is over! Thanks for making it a great conference. Stay tuned for updates, final resolutions, information on AMUNC 2009 Brisbane, etc. Don't forget to join our Facebook group!

Each year, AMUNC engages students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to address the globe’s most pressing issues, through debate and negotiation, in the spirit of the United Nations. Participants also gain insight and inspiration from a range of pre-eminent guest speakers.

The conference is also sublimely complimented by an eclectic mix of social events, providing abundant opportunities for networking, entertainment and sampling of the local culture.

In 2008, this event was hosted for the first time in the graceful and welcoming city of Adelaide, capital of South Australia and home to Australia’s best food, wine and festivals. It will be held at The University of Adelaide, the third-oldest university in Australia, located in the cultural heart of the city centre, in close proximity to all accommodation and conference venues.

The theme of AMUNC 2008 was Challenges and Change: A Time for New Thinking. Through this theme, we aim to parallel the process of transformation confronting the United Nations with the challenges faced by members of this generation, and instil new thinking to generate solutions to these various issues, especially in the five key areas of sustainability, diversity, equality, engagement and renewal.

As the first-time host of AMUNC, Adelaide put on a spectacular show, with a myriad of social events showcasing such striking venues as the Adelaide Convention Centre, as well as the finest restaurants on elegant Rundle St, not to mention an array of the city’s premium bars and clubs. Post-conference trips to the outback, famous wine regions and Kangaroo Island were also be a highlight.

More detailed information on the conference proceedings will be released in due course, so please return to this site soon, and also join up to our Facebook group which will also provide valuable updates and connections.

All members of the AMUNC 2008 Host Team, including myself, thank you for joining us in July 2008.

With my best wishes,
