6th General Assembly

Topic 1: The validity of anti-terror laws with regards to detention and treatment of terror suspects, with particular attention to cases in United Kingdom and Australia.

In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre, the Security Council called on states to take wide‐ranging counter‐terrorist measures, including to 'ensure that any person who participates in the financing, planning, preparation or perpetration of terrorist acts or in supporting terrorist acts is brought to justice and ensure that such terrorist acts are established as serious criminal offences in domestic laws and regulations and that the punishment duly reflects the seriousness of such terrorist acts.

Topic 2: The question of legal rights of foreign mercenaries.
Director: Benjamin Harkin


Mercenaries are effectively non‐government soldiers who are motivated usually by financial gain or religious or other considerations. But clearly, are not actors of a state, rather they are employed by them. In recent times there has been considerable debate of the deployment of foreign mercenaries in warzones, their use, and their legal rights.

The 6th GA is the committee concerned with legal matters. It attempts to use International Law, as well as other conventions such as the Geneva Conventions of 1049 to trial individuals and States for international wrongful acts, which may include war crimes, crimes against humanity among other matters. It upholds the principles of International Trade Law, Private International Law and the International Law of the Sea, among other treaties. The main goal of the 6th GA is to cultivate a wider appreciation of International Law.Topics
