Apply to a Special Committee

Being part of an application-only Special Committee provides an excellent chance to develop your diplomatic skills with high-level debate. The committees are:

These committees generally require previous knowledge and experience in Model UN. For the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice, a high level of mooting or legal skills is an acceptable substitute. Delegates will be expected to have a good understandng of more complex aspects of procedure and the issues under debate, and must be available for all six days of the conference. If you’re still relatively new to Model UN, we recommend building your skills by sinking your teeth into one of AMUNC's general committees.

How to apply

Applications are now closed. If you've applied, you'll hear from us soon. If your application is successful, you will be able to register and submit your payment at that time. If you are unfortunately unsuccessful, you are of course very welcome to join one of the general committees. General registration doesn't open until Mar 22, so you won't miss out on a spot there.

Attending as part of a delegation

If your university is sending a delegation to AMUNC, we'll count you as part of that group, even if you're on a special committee. However, you'll register separately, as positions on special committees are not reserved for delegations. For example, just because your university delegation is allocated the USA for the rest of the committees, that doesn't necessarily mean someone from your university will be representing the USA on the Security Council. All special committee positions are given out based on the applications submitted.
