Head Delegates

This page will serve as a contact point and information source for the heads of university delegations. For now, here is a general background to the concept of a delegation.

What is a delegation?

A delegation is a group of students from the same university, who attend AMUNC together and represent the same country (or countries) across each of the committees. Some delegations also arrange accommodation, as well as training and information sessions for their participants. Participating as part of a delegation can be a really rewarding and fun experience, providing a supportive and familiar environment from which to experience the conference.

There is no maximum size for a delegation. We strongly discourage delegations of less than 5 people. Please note that AMUNC will only accept one delegation per university.

What is a head delegate?

A head delegate is the leader of a university delegation. For AMUNC, head delegates are the key point of contact through which the host team will communicate and make arrangements with delegations, such as reserving country preferences. Within a delegation, head delegates are usually charged with coordination responsibilities, including confirming numbers, allocating committee positions, organising accommodation, or running training and information sessions.

How do I reserve a delegation?

If you're a head delegate, you can reserve a delegation from February 14.

  1. Estimate how many people you think are likely to join your delegation. You can increase this later if you need to, so it's better to underestimate than to reserve positions that you can't fill up.
  2. Have a look at the country matrix and plan out some countries that you'd like to reserve for your delegation. Make sure you pick ones with sufficient places for the number of delegates you expect to bring.
  3. Submit your reservation application through our online system. We will confirm your country allocations from February 28.
  4. Once countries have been allocated to your delegation, they are blocked off and nobody from outside your delegation can register into them. We'll give you a code that enables your delegates to register there.
  5. You then need to recruit delegates, and allocate them a position. They need to register online from March 22, so we have their details and they can pay. It's not enough to have been allocated a spot by you.
  6. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@amunc.net.

Notes

Delegation spots that have not been registered by April 30 will no longer be held and shall be incorporated back into the country matrix. Members of your delegation who have not registered by this time must do so as individual delegates. More information about registering members of your delegation will be available when country allocations are confirmed from February 28.

Please note that delegations do not include countries or positions in special application-only committees. For example, if your delegation receives France as a country, that does not include the position of France on the Security Council. The NGO Program and Press Gallery are also separate from the delegation process.
