Interns
What is AMUNC?
The Asia-Pacific Model UN Conference is the premier regional Model UN for tertiary students in the Australasian region. Drawing over 550 students, the conference features a fantastic array of committees, simulations and social events, in addition to a stimulating guest speaker program and careers fair. You can find out more by browsing this website.
What is the AMUNC internship program?
The AMUNC internship program is open to high-school students who are aged sixteen and above, and is aimed at providing an opportunity for Model UN and broader skills development. AMUNC interns should be available for the period of July 10-16, 2010. (Yes, that's in the school holidays.)
What will I do as an intern?
AMUNC interns will be assigned to one of AMUNC’s 19 committees and will play a key role in assisting the directors in facilitating and overseeing debate. You’ll have access to some of the region’s most practised MUNers, and get a working understanding of some of the more complex rules and processes of Model UN. On top of this, you’ll gain valuable experience in the behind-the-scenes of conference running, and develop your teamwork and leadership skills.
As an intern you’ll be considered a key part of the AMUNC host team. We will provide you with full training and support, and any other assistance you might need.
What social events can I attend?
There will be a laser tag night for the entire Host Team after the interns training session on Wednesday July 7. This will be a good team bonding activity and you can meet other fellow interns.
You will also be invited to attend the Committees Dinner on Monday (July 12) evening, which will give you an opportunity to mingle with the delegates from your committee.
Does it cost anything?
We recognise you're giving up valuable time as a volunteer, so attending the conference is free! If you'd like to attend the committee dinners or the intern & host team social, they'll cost you about $25 each.
How do I get involved?
At the moment we are taking expressions of interest for internship positions. We will be in touch with further information in the coming months. Please note that there are no criteria attached to the positions: all we ask is that you are enthusiastic, committed and have a good work ethic. If you have any further questions, please email our interns coordinator, Varsha Maharaj, at interns@amunc.net.
