NGO Program
About the program
The AMUNC NGO Program is an opportunity to experience the realities of the UN system for non-government organisations. Representing a NGO is very similar to being a delegate for a country, with a few exceptions:
NGOs are not assigned to a committee. As a NGO, you have the flexibility of working in multiple forums, on a variety of topics, according to the interests and goals of your organisation.
NGOs are considered to be experts. The ideas and opinions you raise will be taken very seriously by the committee. All NGOs will receive a budget, which may be used to finance initiatives proposed by the committee. Delegates may also request the presence of a NGO, at the discretion of their directors although NGOs maintain the power to reject these requests.
NGOs cannot vote on substantive matters. Unlike a delegate representing a country, NGOs are unable to vote, submit amendments or draft resolutions, or raise motions. However, you can influence these through debate, negotiation and caucus. All other committee engagement remains the same: you can give speeches, ask questions, and write working papers.
NGOs must submit progress reports to the program director. By the end of each committee session, NGOs must submit a quick report (consisting of a few questions) to their director, with updates on the debate and developments made within the committees they visited.
