Prepare
AMUNC places a great deal of importance on ensuring that all delegates are prepared and confident when entering their committees - whether it be their first or twenty-first Model UN conference. In order to ensure this, we're working hard to create a comprehensive range of materials to help you understand and conquer the art of MUN.

To help you before the conference
- Doing a bit of research on your country and topic will make your AMUNC experience much more valuable. We've compiled some suggestions into the Research Guide.
- You'll need to summarise your research into a very short position paper, and upload it to your committee's file sharing site. Position papers are due from every delegate before the conference starts - upload it to your committee's file sharing page. Don't worry, it won't take long to put together! The details are provided in the Position Paper Guide.
To help you at the conference
- Model UN procedure can seem complex, but makes sense quickly once you experience it. To get an idea of what to expect, especially if you've never been to a Model UN before, look at the Basic Guide. If you only read one file on this page (a strategy which is not recommended!), make it the Basic Guide.
- The guide to Strategy & Speaking will also show you how to get the most out of the week.
- If you are more experienced and looking for an in-depth discussion, consult the Advanced Guide.
- There are various points and motions you can raise in committee, to suggest what it should do next - here's a quick reference table so you can remember them.
- When writing up resolutions or working papers, having some sample documents at hand can be useful.
- Take our Quiz to see how well you understand Model UN. There's also a harder one for directors and experienced delegates.
For specific committees
- The International Court of Justice operates using different rules: see the ICJ Guide.
- For its deliberation topic, the International Criminal Court also operates differently: see the ICC Guide.
- A Crisis Council guide is coming soon.
