Welcome

From the Secretary-General

Secretary-General

On behalf of the Secretariat, it is my honour to invite you to attend the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference (AMUNC), to be held this year at the University of Sydney. Now in its 16th year, AMUNC has developed a reputation as one of the premier events in the region for aspiring young leaders, with nearly 600 of the best and brightest from across the Asia-Pacific and beyond in attendance.

For a week, AMUNC captures the glitz and grind of the diplomat’s world. Through the Model UN framework, you will have the opportunity to grapple more immediately with the intricacies of some of the pressing issues facing our global community be it in international security, law, economics, health or the environment. Model UN allows you to escape beyond the confines of theory and place yourself in the shoes of our national leaders. Additionally, AMUNC has traditionally enjoyed the presence of a range of high profile speakers who as well as being living and breathing repositories of knowledge and experience, possess a tremendous capacity to inspire. But perhaps most importantly, AMUNC is about connecting with like-minded people in developing valuable professional networks and forging life-long friendships.

The AMUNC Secretariat is excited to have the opportunity to deliver this conference to you in conjunction with our sponsors. Our website is your portal to the AMUNC world with information about the conference and resources including training videos and delegate guides to make your experience as rewarding as possible. We hope that you will take up the AMUNC challenge and look forward to welcoming you to Sydney in July.

Sincerely,

Anshu De Silva Wijeyeratne

Secretary-General, AMUNC 2010

From the Premier of New South Wales
